Huawei Ideos hands-on

Chinese telecom giant Huawei — which has been playing the Android game with major carriers around the world for some time now — has selected IFA to debut the Ideos, a new entry-level model running Froyo in a variety of colors. Huawei’s press release calls the Ideos “the world’s first affordable smartphone” — which seems like a bit of an overstatement (okay, a huge overstatement) to us — but really underscores the fact that this thing is going to be launching for somewhere between $100 and $200 unsubsidized in Europe, Asia, and both North and Latin America.

So Poseidon Walks Into A Bar And He Tells The Bartender, "Make This One A Double…"

Hurricanes, like most things with drinks named after them, make me want to start boozing . It’s 5:00 somewhere (but only 6:51 AM here) aside, this is a recent satellite image of hurricanes Danielle (top) and Earl (bottom) doing their thing in the Atlantic. Now, are you thinking what I’m thinking?

How To: Catch A Ton Of Pigeons. Or, Why Is There So Much Bird $#!7 Right Here?

If you haven’t seen this yet it’s a video of some folks that were hired by the city of Barcelona to help remove pigeons from the city and thus reduce the flying rat’s fecal impact on buildings and landmarks. And this is how they do it: with some sort of magic net-gun , possibly similar to this thing .

Next gen PSP to have touch controls — on the wrong side?

Touchscreen controls are nice for some applications but, until someone invents transparent fingers, they’re a real bother for gaming. Many, including Apple , have toyed with the idea of putting the touch sensitive sections on the back of the device, and we have strong rumors coming out of Gamescom this week that this is the path Sony is taking for its next-generation PSP. Now, we’ve been hearing various rumors about this thing for just about as long as we’ve known about the first-gen PSP, but Sony is said to be quietly showing off a prototype unit about the size of a PSP-3000 .

Samsung Captivate coming to AT&T on July 18 for $200

We’ve just gotten official word that the Captivate — AT&T’s rendition of Samsung’s global Galaxy S line of high-end Android phones — will be available starting Sunday, July 18 for $199 on contract with no rebate required. That pricing is more or less what we’d expected considering that T-Mobile priced the Vibrant the same way — and if rumors of T-Mobile’s launch date bump are true, the Captivate won’t be the first kid on the block. Still, all four US nationals are getting this thing pretty shortly, which is an extremely impressive Android coup for the boys and girls over at Sammy.

Seagate busts out 3TB external hard drive for $250

Yeah, you heard that right. As of today, those among us who value quantity over speed in our storage can buy a whole trifecta of terabytes in one solitary package. Seagate has just unveiled the FreeAgent GoFlex Desk (did they have the teenage intern name this thing?), which is the first 3.5-inch drive to store quite so much data

Setting things on fire : it’s what separates man from lesser forms of life like fish and children . And what better way to celebrate humanity than setting fire an old iPhone ablaze with a giant magnifying glass (actually a Fresnel lens)

Note: Video is after the jump because fanboys are already crying and this is only a picture. This is a video of the new iPhone 4 getting shot by a Navy Seabee with a 50-caliber sniper rifle . It’s pretty cool to watch , even if dude does barely clip the thing.
