Sky 3D channel comes home October 1 with Ryder Cup, EPL, movies and more


The Sky 3D channel has so far been officially available only in 1,500 or so UK pubs , but now its residential launch for all Sky+HD customers is slated for October 1. The 2010 Ryder Cup will serve as a launch event with three days of live coverage from Celtic Manor as the US and European teams do battle; the first ever in 3D, but the third such event it’s covered in high definition.

Canon EOS 7D joins fleet in receiving firmware update to fix manual exposure movie bug


” Fixes a phenomenon in which the set aperture moves when shooting movies in manual exposure mode using some Canon lenses (such as macro lenses). ” If you’ve got a 5D Mark II , 1D Mark IV , or Rebel T2i handy and have been keeping its firmware fresh, that phrase should be all too familiar; all three of those shooters have received updates in the past two months to fix such an issue, and now it’s time for the EOS 7D to get a fix all its own. Our darling budding filmmakers’ tool is also getting a few tweaks with AF point display and selection, and the multilingual copy editors of this world can breathe a deep sigh of relief as typos in the Spanish and Thai menus have been corrected.

DECE’s ‘digital locker’ take-anywhere DRM dubbed UltraViolet, launches later this year


We’re still not sure if we believe in the promises made by the Digital Entertainment Content Ecosystem (DECE) yet — buy a piece of content once in physical or digital format, and gain access across all formats and devices via a cloud based account — but we’re closer to finding out for ourselves now that it has a new name, UltraViolet. In case you haven’t been paying attention over the last couple of years, the DECE group is already home to most of the biggest names on both the content and consumer electronics sides of the business, with the most notable holdouts being Apple and Disney, which is backing its own competing system, Keychest
