If you’ve got a hankering for some battery-sipping Core i3 ULV processors and live south of a certain 38th parallel line, you’ll probably want to take a close look at one of Samsung’s new designs. We hear on good authority that Sammy’s refreshed its X Series laptops with the 1.2GHz Core i3-330M processor, including the 11.6-inch X180 (with the same 3GB of DDR3 memory, 320GB hard drive and most everything else included in the X170 that came before) and the 14-inch X430, which leapfrogs its predecessor the X420 with dedicated GeForce 310M graphics. Both actually report less battery life than their forbears, as the new laptops are rated closer to eight than nine hours, but in the X430 it’s a small sum to pay to avoid integrated Intel video

Love at first sight may be debatable, but we had a feeling we’d be into Hori’s PS3 Slim LCD dock just as soon as we laid eyes on it. A few months after first appearing overseas, the simplistic device — which mounts an 11.6-inch LCD atop your PlayStation 3 Slim console — is ready to be imported into these great States of America. Play-Asia is coming through in the clutch once more, offering the gizmo to those situated far, far from the Land of the Rising Sun for $259.90

Being tied to a disc hasn’t made for the easiest Netflix Watch Instantly experience on the PlayStation 3, but it has its benefits, and now that includes the ability for all users to search its library directly on the console. This feature’s been available to some for months before it was even announced the Xbox 360 would get parity in a fall update, but we can confirm it’s currently rolling out to all PS3 users. CTA may be best known for its endless array of kid-friendly Wii accessories , but it’s not forgetting about the grown-up gamers out there — or, at least, grown-ups who enjoy shooting plastic guns in their living rooms. Its latest product is the $65 Assault Rifle for the PlayStation 3, which promises to add a whole new degree of “realism and excitement” to games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 — oh, and it also makes sound effects even when you’re not playing a game. Head on past the break for the video.

It’s still a pretty big window, but Netflix CEO Reed Hastings has narrowed down the time until we can expect a disc-free streaming experience on our PS3s from ” later this year ” to some time before its next earning call, which should happen around October 21. Other notes from the Q2 highlights included a shoutout to Hulu Plus , where Netflix “plans to learn what customers like about Hulu Plus” and use that to enhance its service, as well as the upcoming launch of a streaming service in Canada , and how the lessons learned may be applied to other “pure streaming” offerings internationally in the future

Sorry, fellow gamers, we’re out of luck if we want to play stereoscopic PS3 titles in their full high definition glory — Joystiq reports that Sony guidelines won’t allow for 1080p 3D. As we discovered in April , the goal is to run even native 1080p content at a lower 720p resolution when splitting the image in twain, allowing enough processing overhead for a smooth 60fps framerate and likely reducing eyestrain .
